Description
MotivMFG's Spring/Summer 2026 collection is titled "A.C.G.T." — referencing the four bases that make up a strand of DNA: Adenine, Cytosine, Guanine, & Thymine. The very conceptual title ties into the scientific inspiration behind the collection, which combines a set of unique and highly-technical fabrics with Motiv's usual stellar tailoring and design. The garments are somehow both old-world and futuristic, with riffs on familiar silhouettes and contemporary updates to classic styles that seem like they would feel equally appropriate in the Atomic Era of the late 40s as well as the distant 2100s.
We've had many conversations over the years with people who struggle to understand how a pair of shorts can cost close to (or the same amount as) a full pair of trousers. The truth is, 95% of the manufacturing happens above the thighs, and extending the legs down adds fairly negligible cost in terms of fabric and labor. Motiv's Denim Shorts are a great example of this, and perhaps the most elevated take on "jorts" we've ever seen. They've got a very engineered design, with a high rise and relaxed legs that pack a lot of subtle details into the fit. The patch pockets are cut to align with two front pleats, slimming-down the silhouette in a very elegant way, while the fly features a unique folded one-piece construction that Motiv designed exclusively for their denim line.
They're made from a totally custom fabric — a relaxed version of Motiv's herringbone "Summer Denim," developed in collaboration with the best narrow-loom weavers in the South of China. Made from a blend of 75% cotton and 25% ramie yarns, they combine a light indigo cotton warp with gray cotton/ramie weft yarns for a lower-contrast patina over time. They're then finished with a stone wash in clear water, softening the fabric considerably and giving them a more consistent light blue exterior. On top of that, Motiv have deployed the selvedge detail at several points around the shorts, including the side seams, back yoke, and the rear belt loops.
