Description
Katsuya Tokunaga Atelier Tokyo is a sub-label of "The Boots Factory," the larger company responsible for Rolling Dub Trio and Tokyo Sandal, among a few others. K.T.A. focuses on smaller leather goods than the boots and bags of the other brands, with a narrower lineup that highlights the leather and hardware first and foremost. The styles are perfectly practical, designed for daily use with some very thoughtful storage details, but never sacrifice quality or aesthetics, showcasing highly unique and popular leathers from famous tanneries around the world. All Katsuya Tokunaga Atelier goods are handmade in Tokyo, Japan.
The L Wallet is their take on a classic zip-up wallet, with a completely contained design and an L-shaped zip closure. It's got a separate zip pocket on the "back" side of the wallet, with ~4 additional "chambers" inside the main body that can be used for cards or bills that you may need to carry. The outer edges, and indeed much of this wallet, were cut extra thick — this is deliberate, and as the Atelier tell it, making these wallets thick is an assertion "that it cannot get any thicker."
It's made from an English bridle leather, sourced from Thomas Ware & Sons, an English tannery with a history running back to 1840. This particular leather is unique in a few ways — firstly, it features a prominent vertical texture that will only get more attractive as time passes and it continues to wear in. Secondly, it's cut quite thick (as mentioned above), with chunky edges and a more robust construction than you'd expect from a zip wallet.
